Zack Durant and Joe Tardif Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

Cortland baseball juniors Zack Durant (Verona/V-V-S) and Joe Tardif (Cutchogue/Mattituck) have been honored for their play for the week ending March 24. Durant was selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Week and also earned a spot on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week. Tardif was chosen as the SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week. The D3baseball.com team consists of the top players for the week, by position, among all Division III schools.

Durant pitched seven hitless innings with six strikeouts and three walks in Cortland's 9-0 win over Plattsburgh last Friday in Georgia. He was pulled from the nine-inning game after seven innings due to his 101-pitch count and the game finished as a combined one-hit shutout.

Durant is 3-2 this spring with a 2.76 ERA in six appearances, all as a starter. In 29 and a third innings he's allowed only 19 hits and nine walks and has struck out 22 batters. Over his last three starts, all victories, Durant has given up only eight hits, six walks and one run with 17 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Tardif batted .643 (9-for-14) with a double, triple, five RBI and an .857 slugging percentage in five games during Cortland's spring break trip to Georgia. He was a combined 6-for-8 with a triple and three RBI in the Red Dragons' three-game sweep of Plattsburgh to open Cortland's SUNYAC schedule, and he finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a one-run loss at Piedmont College.

Cortland (10-8-1, 3-0 SUNYAC) will play a non-league game at Rochester Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and will host Oneonta in a three-game SUNYAC series with a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
