CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 15th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team raced out to a 7-0 lead just before the midway point of the first half en route to an 18-10 victory versus Oswego Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Lakers fell to 4-3 and 1-2.
Senior
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) led nine Cortland goal scorers with a game-high five. Junior
Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) netted four goals, sophomore
Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) tallied a career-high six points on two goals and four assists and junior
Molly Newton (Skaneateles) recorded two goals and two assists.

Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and
Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) each contributed one goal and one assist, and sophomores
Paige Hommel (East Islip/St. John the Baptist) and
Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and freshman
Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) each chipped in with a goal for Cortland.
Sophomore
Annie Casey (Bay Shore) started in goal for the Red Dragons, making six saves in 51:30 before giving way to sophomore
Paige Potter (Cortland), who stopped one shot over the final 8:30. Hoeffner registered four caused turnovers and four ground balls, and freshman
Amanda Squillini (Stony Point/North Rockland) also caused four turnovers. Junior
Jordynn Aiello (Centereach/Newfield) recorded an assist and four ground balls, Lorenzen won six draw controls and Meager secured four draws.
Senior Brigid Regin (Syracuse/West Genesee) led Oswego with three goals. Senior Toni Laneve (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) tallied two goals and one assist, junior Molly Beck (Mexico) scored twice, senior Teresa Shattuck (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) had one goal and one assist and junior Kassidy Myers (Mexico) and freshman Mckenna Chesbro (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) each scored a goal.
Junior goalie Elianna Sanchez (Queens/John Adams) registered 10 saves for the Lakers. Senior Danielle Walker (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) collected five ground balls and caused three turnovers, and Shattuck won a game-high eight draws.
Stone and Meager each scored twice and Yonge, Lorenzen and Hommel notched one goal apiece as Cortland built a 7-0 lead at the 16:42 mark of the opening half. The Lakers answered with four of the game's next six goals, two from Regin, to cut their deficit to 9-4 six minutes before the half. Newton made it a 10-4 score at the break with her goal at 4:29.
The Red Dragons continued to build on their lead in the second half. After Hoeffner and Myers traded early scores, Cortland netted six of the next seven goals to take a commanding 17-6 lead at the midway point of the half. Chesbro and Procopio each netted goals, and Cortland held an 18-7 advantage with 9:32 to play before the Lakers closed out the game with a three-goal run for the 18-10 final.
