Cortland Defeats Ithaca, 12-5, in Non-Conference Action

CORTLAND, N.Y. –  The Cortland men's lacrosse team held Ithaca to one goal in the second half to pull away from a tight game in earning a 12-5 victory Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 10-4 with the win, while the Bombers fell to 8-5 with the loss.

Freshman Troy Morris (Long Beach) paced the Cortland offense with a career-high five goals. Senior Dean Riley (Homer) tallied three goals and one assist. Freshman Dante Yacavone (Homer) recorded one goal and three assists, junior Terrence Haggerty (Centerport/Harborfields) had one goal and two assists, senior Joey Panariello (Islip) contributed one goal and one assist and senior Alex Waelder (Syracuse/Corcoran) added a goal. Junior Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst/St. John the Baptist) chipped in with one assist.

Freshman goalie Marc Esposito (West Babylon) made seven saves and collected three ground balls for the Red Dragons. Junior Brian Williams (Holtsville/Sachem East) won 14-of-20 faceoffs and scooped up 11 ground balls. Freshman Dominick Natale (Homer) secured six ground balls, freshman Justin Wainwright (Homer) collected five ground balls and sophomore Mike Nicholson (North Babylon/St. Anthony's) added three.

Junior Ryan Ozsvath (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills West) and sophomore Connor Brumfield (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) each recorded a goal and an assist for Ithaca. Senior Brendan King (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde), sophomore Connor Till (Engelwood, CO/Cherry Creek) and freshman Drew Turner (Port Washington) netted one goal apiece, and senior Josh Della Puca (Pleasantville) tallied an assist.

Freshman goalie Connor Thornton (Boulder, CO) registered 11 saves for the Bombers. King caused five turnovers and collected six ground balls, freshman Demetri Lowry (Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) secured five ground balls and sophomore Jake Hall-Goldman (Ridgewood, NJ) caused four turnovers.
