Maya Campbell hands off to Steffany Batista during Thursday's 4x100-meter relay preliminaries
GENEVA, OHIO – Cortland's 4x100-meter relay team of junior
Kelly Gardner (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North), senior
Maya Campbell (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South), freshman
Steffany Batista (Spring Valley/Ramapo) and freshman
Taylor Hunter (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) broke their own school record and advanced to Saturday's finals during the opening day of action at the NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet is being held at the SPIRE Institute, which also served as the national site in 2017.
The Red Dragons earned the ninth and final spot in Saturday's 12:05 p.m. finals with their prelim time of 47.59 seconds, eclipsing the school record of 47.72 seconds that they set at the SUNYAC Championships earlier this month. They finished seventh out of eight teams in the second preliminary heat, but had a faster time than six of the eight teams from the opening heat.
Campbell, in addition to competing in Saturday's relay finals, will also be part of the field in the triple jump Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
