WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – Cortland split two matches during Day 2 of the Budd Whitehill Duals to claim seventh place at the two-day, 16-team tournament hosted by Lycoming College. The Red Dragons (6-2) lost to Ohio Northern, 23-16, in their first match of the day but rebounded with a 25-16 victory versus Wis.-Stevens Point to conclude their tournament.

Ben Lloyd's (Woodbridge, VA/Forest Park) 11-1 major decision at 125 pounds. Ohio Northern took control of the match by winning the next five weight classes, building a 20-4 advantage. The Red Dragons closed out the match by winning three of the final bouts. Sophomore
Demitreus Henry (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) earned a 7-0 decision at 174 pounds. Junior
Dylan Dubuque (East Greenbush/Columbia) recorded a 6-2 decision at 197 pounds, and junior
Zach Herbert (Sparta, NJ) pinned his opponent in 2:42.
Against Wis.-Stevens Point, the upper weights determined the outcome for Cortland. A forfeit win at 125 pounds put the Red Dragons ahead, 6-0, but Stevens Point won four of the next five bouts to take a 16-10 lead. Freshman
Chandler Merwin (Walton) registered a 14-6 major decision for Cortland at 149 pounds. Henry started the Cortland comeback with a 10-5 decision at 174 pounds. Senior
Kevin Morgans (Liberty) tied the match at 16-16 with a narrow 3-2 win at 184 pounds. Dubuque scored the decisive points at 197 pounds with a fall in 58 seconds, and Herbert sealed the victory with a 4-2 decision ay heavyweight.
TCNJ won the team title with a 38-3 victory over Messiah in the championship match. Wis.-Eau Claire finished third after beating Washington & Lee, 23-16, and Springfield claimed fifth place with a 19-16 win over Ohio Northern.
Cortland will head to Oneonta next Saturday to compete at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference championships.
