Hunter Bernhardt finished first in both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle races
CORTLAND, N.Y. –
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) and
Pat Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) each won two events and
Nick Galeto (West Islip) earned a victory during the Cortland men's swimming and diving team's 161-133 dual-meet loss to visiting Oswego.
Bernhardt easily won both distance races with times of 10:10.34 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, more than 22 seconds ahead of the runner-up, and 4:53.93 in the 500-yard freestyle, more than 11 seconds better than second place.
Conway placed first in both diving events with scores of 246.00 points on the 3-meter board and 208.30 points on the 1-meter board. Galeto won the 100-yard backstroke in 54.49 seconds. Cortland swept the top three spots in the 100 backstroke as Galeto was followed by
Tom Ryan (Long Beach) in second (58.30) and
Ian Murray (Moravia/Southern Cayuga) in third (59.20).
Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.25, losing by just eight hundredth of a second.
Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park) was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.96) and
Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes) was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.29). Cortland's other individual runners-up were
Noah Farmer (New Hartford) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.76) and
Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) in the 100-yard butterfly (56.30).
Cortland finished second in both relays. Galeto, Cornelia, Donlevy and
Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) were clocked at 1:40.83 in the 200-yard medley relay and Poli,
Mo Diarra (New York/East Side Community),
Cameron Cook (Vestal) and Galeto finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.17.
Cortland will compete at the RPI Invitational Saturday at noon.
