Five Cortland Divers Compete at Ithaca's Dick Comanzo Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – Five Cortland divers – four women and one man – competed at the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational Sunday at Ithaca College.

Taylor Williams (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) led the Red Dragon women in a competitive field with a fourth-place finish out of 25 competitors on the 3-meter board with a career-high score of 460.75 points and a fifth-place showing out of 28 divers on the 1-meter board with 437.15 points.

Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenedehowa) posted a career-best score of 410.60 points to finish ninth on the 3-meter board and she was eighth in the 1-meter competition with 415.30 points.

Adriane Casey (West Islip) also registered a career best on the 3-meter board with her 18th-place score of 359.35 points, and was 17th on the 1-meter board with 346.35 points.

Emma Heppner (Orchard Park), competing in an 11-dive format for the first time on the 3-meter board, finished 22nd with a score of 266.35 points. She was 25th in the 1-meter event with 269.80 points.

Ithaca's Karalyn Pawcio won the 3-meter event (498.50 points) and Ithaca's Ava Lowell was the 1-meter winner (448.05 points).

The NCAA regional qualifying standards for the women are 410 points for 3-meter and 395 points for 1-meter. Williams and Zachgo each hit the marks but had already qualified for regionals with previous performances.

On the men's side, Pat Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) finished fifth of 12 on the 3-meter board with 403.15 points and sixth of 12 on the 1-meter board with 385.90 points. Ithaca's Justin Moczynski won both events (499.90 pts. on 3-meter, 550.85 pts. on 1-meter). Conway was strong through nine dives on the 1-meter board before struggling on the 10th dive and ended up short of the NCAA regional qualifying mark of 425 points. He'll still have opportunities to qualify, either during Cortland's final two dual meets or at the SUNYAC Championships. Divers need to meet a qualifying standard either twice during the regular season or once at the conference championship.

Cortland's next swimming and diving dual meet will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Oneonta.
