Head shots of Emma Schulz and Megan Hanley - NCGA East Region weekly honors

Emma Schulz and Megan Hanley Earn Weekly NCGA East Region Recognition

Cortland junior Emma Schulz (Poughquag/Arlington) and sophomore Megan Hanley (Lynbrook/Malverne) have earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Women's Gymnastics East Region weekly awards for the week ending Feb. 16.

Schulz was named the NCGA East Specialist of the Week for the second straight week and third time overall – the maximum number of times the NCGA bylaws allow an athlete to win the award in one season. Hanley was selected as the NCGA East All-Arounder of the Week.

Schulz tied her own school record on balance beam and fell just short of tying her own school record on floor exercise during a quad meet at Division I Cornell that also featured Brockport and Ithaca. She posted a winning score of 9.825 on beam, and she tied for first with two Cornell athletes on floor with a 9.875 - just shy of her school record 9.90 set during last year's NCGA East Regionals. Schulz also tied for 13th place on vault with a 9.30. She is currently the top-ranked Division III competitor this season on both balance beam with a 9.7938 Seasonal Average Score (SAS) and on floor exercise with a 9.7813 SAS.

Hanley won the all-around in a quad meet at Division I Cornell that also featured Brockport and Ithaca. She posted a career-high score of 38.00 that also included career bests of 9.65 on uneven bars (fourth place) and 9.55 on floor exercise (tied for 10th place), along with a tie for 11th place on balance beam (9.575). Hanley is currently ranked fifth nationally in Division III in the all-around with a Seasonal Average Score (SAS) of 36.950.

Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Ithaca College Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as part of a "Rumble & Tumble" event along with Cortland's and Ithaca's wrestling teams.
