CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior Zach Remers (Clarence/Wilkes Barre-Scranton Knights) scored on a breakaway just before the midway point of the third period as the Buffalo St. men's hockey team defeated Cortland, 2-1, in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday night at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons wrapped up their season 12-12-1 overall and 5-11 on the conference. The Bengals improved to 12-11-2 and 8-7-1.

Sophomore Shane Beaulieu (Claremont, ON/Powassan VooDoos) netted Cortland's goal off assists from junior Alex Storjohann (Phoenix, AZ/Kirkland Lake) and sophomore Mike Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres). Senior goalie Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) registered 36 saves.

Freshman Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia/Springfield Jr. Blues) added a goal for Buffalo St. Senior Jon Colley (Stouffville, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) and junior Sam Maddox (St. Louis, MO/Topeka Roadrunners) each chipped in with an assist. Sophomore goalie Trevor Micucci (Hamburg/Amarillo Bulls) made 27 saves.

Kozyrev gave the Bengals a 1-0 lead on a two-man-advantage at 5:41 of the first period. Beaulieu tied the game on the power play with a wrist shot from the left side at 9:06 of the second period. Remers netted the game winner at 8:37 of the third period when he possessed a turnover and scored into the upper right as he skated in alone on Modica. The Red Dragons pulled Modica for an extra skater with 44 seconds remaining and put two shots on goal, but Micucci denied both as the Bengals earned the 2-1 win.
