With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, the Cortland seniors and graduate students from those rosters will be highlighted each week. Today's featured student-athlete is graduate student
Kaylee Uhl from the women's track and field team.
When did you start competing in your specific sport?
I began competing in my sport in seventh grade (only because my dad paid me $100 to do it).
Â
What is your major and why have you chosen it?
My major is now physical education. I am a graduate student and for my undergrad, I was an exercise science major. I knew I wanted something too in the field of exercise and fitness. I knew that becoming a physical education teacher meant I could inspire and help young children become active and have healthy relationships with physical activity, so that is why I chose this field.
Â
If you weren't playing your sport at the collegiate level, what other sport do you think you would be competing in at the collegiate level?
If I wasn't playing my sport at the collegiate level, I would probably be playing soccer.
Â
If you had only one sport to play the rest of your life, besides your sport at Cortland, what would it be?
If I could play one sport for the rest of my life that wasn't my sport, I would play soccer because before track, I played a lot of soccer growing up.
Â
Why did you choose Cortland to continue your athletic career?
I chose Cortland to continue my athletic career because it was the perfect fit size wise, academically and athletically. The team felt like family immediately, even when I came on my visit before I was officially part of the team.
Â
What is your favorite memory at Cortland as a student-athlete?
My favorite memory at Cortland as a student-athlete is going sub-4 in the 4 x 400 at indoor SUNYACs and regionals my senior year, and all of the friendships I made throughout my years here.
Â
What is your favorite memory at Cortland as a student?
My favorite memory at Cortland as a student are the times where you could really see how big the SUNY Cortland community is, such as Cortaca.
Â
If you had to eat just one fruit the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I had to eat just one fruit the rest of my life it would be pineapple.
Â
Would you rather go bowling, throw darts or shoot pool?
I would rather go bowling, because I used to be in a bowling league back in the day.
Â
Would you rather go fishing, go sledding or go for a hike?
I would rather go for a hike because I love the outdoors and fresh air.
Â
What show are you most likely to binge watch now that you have more free time?
Now that I have extra free time I am most likely to binge The Office or One Piece.
Â
What are your plans after this semester?
My plan for after this semester is to work for the summer before returning for my last year of grad school.
Â
What are your thoughts about the shutdown of athletics throughout all divisions?
I am extremely upset about losing my last season of track and field, but I respect the NCAA and SUNYAC's decision to cancel it due to the pandemic.
Â
Will you consider using the extra year of eligibility that the NCAA has allowed due to the shutdown?
I would consider using the extra year of eligibility if it fits into my plans and coursework.
Â
If you needed to turn to one teammate in a crisis situation, who would that be and why?
If I needed to turn to one teammate in a crisis situation it would be
Jesse Correale, because she is one of my best friends and I know I can turn to her in any situation, good or bad, and she will go out of her way to do anything she can to help.
Â
If you needed a teammate to make you laugh, who would it be?
If I needed to turn to a teammate for a laugh, it would be Noah Serrette, because he's a clown first of all and, second, he can be positive and make the best out of any situation.
Â
Yes or no, milk in meatballs?
I'm not a big meatball girl, but, yes, milk in meatballs.
