FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The nationally 12th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored three second-half goals and defeated Fredonia, 3-0, Friday afternoon to extend its unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive games. The Red Dragons have posted a 9-0-1 record during the stretch and improved their overall record to 9-1-1 and their conference mark to 3-0. The Blue Devils fell to 5-5 and 0-2.
Sophomore
Jack Coleman (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) paced Cortland with one goal and one assist. Graduate student
Blake Aronson (Huntington Station/Walt Whitman) scored his team-high seventh goal of the season, including a team-best sixth game-winning goal. Freshman
Carter Jackson (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) netted his first career goal, and sophomore
Jason Lee (Middle Village/Xavier) collected an assist.
Junior goalie
Braden Melveney (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) made two saves in posting his fifth shutout for the Red Dragons. Goalie Kyle Pezzulo registered four saves for Fredonia.
After a scoreless first half, Lee set up Aronson's game winner in the 56th minute. Jackson then scored off an assist from Coleman in the 81st minute, and Coleman completed the scoring four seconds before the end of regulation for the 3-0 victory.
