Cortland Completes Unbeaten SUNYAC Regular Season with Win at Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Cortland completed a perfect SUNYAC women's volleyball regular season with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-14 victory at Potsdam.
 
The Red Dragons (20-3, 9-0 SUNYAC) will be the top seed in the six-team SUNYAC tournament and has earned a bye into the conference semifinals. The tournament will begin with two first-round matches on Nov. 2 with third-seeded Brockport hosting sixth-seeded Buffalo State and fourth-seeded Fredonia hosting fifth-seeded New Paltz.
 
Cortland will host the semifinals and finals Nov. 5-6. Second-seeded Geneseo will face the Buffalo State/Brockport winner and Cortland will play the New Paltz/Fredonia winner in the semis, and with the two winners meeting in Saturday's championship match.
 
Cortland wraps up its regular-season schedule this upcoming week with a home match Wednesday versus Ithaca and three matches at the Clarkson tournament Friday and Saturday.
 
The Red Dragons used a balance offensive attack in their victory over Potsdam. Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) led the Red Dragons with seven kills along with three blocks. Caterina Mangogna (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor), Hannah Southcott (Princeton, WV) and Nicole Van Pelt (Montgomery/Valley Central) had six kills apiece and Maya Owens (Nyack) finished with five kills with no errors in seven attempts.
 
Carly Haegele (Commack) led the Red Dragons with five aces and 18 digs. Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) had 15 assists and eight digs and Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) added 11 assists.
 
Jessica Ader led Potsdam (5-12, 1-8 SUNYAC) with eight kills and Nikki Ramirez had 15 digs.
 
Cortland finished the match with a .282 team attack percentage, including a .444 mark (15 kills, three errors in 27 attempts) in the second set. The Red Dragons limited the Bears to a .011 team percentage (21 kills, 20 errors in 93 attempts).
