Cortland Knocks Off Brockport, 4-2, in SUNYAC Action

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Freshman Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/PAL Junior Islanders) scored back-to-back goals to break a 1-1 tie as the Cortland men's hockey team skated to a 4-2 win versus Brockport Saturday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0-1-1-1 (8 points) in the SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles fell to 5-2 and 3-2 (9 points).

Sophomores Sutter Donegan (Cicero/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and Cameron Knowlton (Kenai, AK/Charlotte Rush) added goals for Cortland. Freshman Anthony Bernardo (Hauppauge/PAL Junior Islanders) recorded two assists, and senior Michael Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres), junior Nick Grupp (Depew/Brantford 99ers) and sophomore Liam Anderson (East York, ON/Pickering Panthers) each contributed an assist. Junior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) made 25 saves.

Freshman Jacob King (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Blades) netted both of Brockport's goals. Sophomore Connor Galloway (Sugar Hill, GA/Boston Jr. Rangers) collected two assists, and sophomore Andrew Harley (Brockport/East Coast Wizards) chipped in with one assist. Senior goalie Nolan Egbert (North Massapequa/UMass Boston) stopped 24 shots.

King opened the scoring at the 15:47 mark of the first period, finishing off a 2-on-1 break. Donegan tied the game on the power play 1:09 later, and the teams headed to the first intermission tied at 1-1.

Settimo gave Cortland a 2-1 lead at 17:55 of the second period with his fourth goal of the season on a wrist shot from the slot. Early in the third period, the Red Dragons killed off 46 seconds of a two-man advantage for the Golden Eagles, and Settimo scored his second of the game less than a minute later with a wrist shot from the right circle.

Less than 10 minutes later, with the teams skating four aside, Brockport pulled Egbert for an extra skater and the move paid off when King scored at 14:49 to make it a 3-2 game. Brockport again pulled Egbert for an extra skater with under a minute to play, but Knowlton iced the game with an empty-net goal with 6.3 seconds remaining for the 4-2 Cortland win.
