ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams began the dual-meet portion of their schedules with losses at Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon.
Ithaca won the men's meet, 217-82, and the women's meet, 237-63. Cortland will travel to Buffalo State next Saturday, Nov. 13, for a 1 p.m. meet.
In the men's meet,
Jack-Henry Whalen (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.23, more than two seconds ahead of the runner-up, and was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.23 seconds.
Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) took top honors in 1-meter diving (219.15 points) and was second in 3-meter diving (233.00 points).
Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) finished second in three events – the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.15), 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.03) and 200-yard individual medley (2:04.96).
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:19.59), and the quartet of
Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley), Arnberg, Whalen and
Sam Zani (Rochester/Irondequoit) finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.19).
For the women,
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates-Chili) placed second in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.08) and 200-yard backstroke (2:16.23).
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.17),
Marissa Kordal (Eden) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.40), and
Taylor Williams (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) was second in 1-meter diving (245.50 points).
