GENESEO, N.Y. – The top-seeded Geneseo women's soccer team scored the game's only goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation in defeating third-seeded Cortland, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the 2021 SUNYAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The Knights improved to 15-2-1 and earned an automatic NCAA Div. III playoff berth. The Red Dragons fell to 10-5-3.
Junior goalie
Lexi Ramonetti (Northport) registered four saves for Cortland. Goalie Angel Bennett stopped three shots for Geneseo. Nicole Bell netted the game winner off an assist from tournament MVP Hannah Sullivan.
After a scoreless first half in which Cortland held a 4-2 shot advantage, Bell tallied the game winner with 4:31 on the clock. The Red Dragons were unable to generate a scoring chance in the closing minutes as the Knights held on for the win.
