COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Cortland scored the first 16 points and never looked back as the Red Dragons defeated host Cobleskill, 94-75, in a men's basketball non-league game.
Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) led Cortland (4-5) with 23 points and 14 rebounds and also had three assists. He shot 8-of-14 from the floor.
Danny Linehan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) posted career highs of 21 points, five assists and five rebounds. He made 9-of-15 field goals, including three 3-pointers.
Cam Williams (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished with career bests of 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. He hit 6-of-9 shots, including 3-of-5 from the 3-point arc.
Riley McEvoy (Homer) also made 3-of-5 treys and ended with 11 points.
Kareem Lubin (South Blooming Grove/Washingtonville) handed out a career-high 10 assists and pulled down seven rebounds,
Humberto Cabrera (Millbrook) tallied eight points and had two assists, and
Isaiah Preston (Penfield) finished with a career-high five assists.
Cortland shot 55 percent from the field overall and 42 percent (13-of-31) from 3-point range. The Red Dragons recorded 29 assists on their 36 field goals.
Justin Feldman totaled 22 points, five assists and five rebounds for Cobleskill (1-11). He was 8-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-10 from behind the arc. Shaun Johnson hit half of his eight 3-point attempts and finished with 14 points, Juwan Malone chipped in with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds, and Mike McKoy scored seven points and led the Tigers with six assists. Cobleskill shot only 24 percent in the first half, but bounced back to hit 59 percent of its shots over the final 20 minutes to finish the game at 43 percent. The Tigers were 13-of-38 (34 percent) from 3-point territory.
Cortland took its 16-0 lead just five minutes into the contest. The Red Dragons were up 30-5 at the 11:25 mark, 37-7 with 9:44 left, 44-12 with just over six minutes remaining, and 52-19 with 1:35 left. Cortland held a 52-24 halftime lead, and the Red Dragons' largest lead of the afternoon was 37 points at 63-26 on a Linehan 3-pointer with 16:14 remaining in the game. Cortland was up by 30 at 94-64 with 2:38 left before the hosts scored the game's final 11 points.
Cortland is scheduled to return to action at home versus Ithaca on Jan. 4 at 4 p.m.
