Red Dragon Men Capture Snow Flurries Invitational Crown

Josh Chamak won the 400-yard IM, finished second in the 200-yard IM, and was third in the 200-yard backstroke
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished in first place out of six schools at the two-day Snow Flurries Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons at Holsten Pool.
 
Cortland finished with 1,003 points, followed by Oneonta with 671.5 and Oswego with 615. Potsdam (499), Buffalo State (335.5) and Fredonia (258) rounded out the field.
 
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) and Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) each won two individual events. Zupko captured the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.78) and 1,650-yard freestyle (17:27.58), while Meeson won both diving events with scores of 395.15 points on the 3-meter board and 389.85 points on the 1-meter board.
 
Josh Chamak (New CIty/Clarkstown North) won the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.64), finished second in the 200-yard IM (2:06.26), and was third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.99). Jack-Henry Whalen (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) won the 100-yard butterfly (53.48) and placed second in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.19) and 100-yard freestyle (48.98). Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke (54.43).
 
The combination of Zupko, Nick Dambra (Brockport), Chamak and Whalen won the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:35.82), while Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East), Sam Zani (Irondequoit) and Whalen won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.99). Hilldale, Arnberg, Whalen and Zani tied for first place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.05), and Zupko, Arnberg, Whalen and Hilldale were second in the 400-yard medley relay (3:42.26).
 
In addition, Arnberg finished third in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.79) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.60), Zani placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.73), Dambra was third in the 400-yard IM (4:40.43), and Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:22.23).
