REXFORD, N.Y. – Graduate student
Danielle Bambola (Miller Place) tied her own school single-round record with a one-under par 71 as the Cortland women's golf team closed out its regular-season schedule with a 354-366 dual-match victory over Suffolk University at The Edison Club.
Bambola, who is undefeated this spring in six outings with a 74.8 scoring average, awaits a possible individual berth into the NCAA Division III Championships. Six individuals not on qualifying teams will be chosen to compete at the championships, which will be held May 11-14 at the Forest Akers Golf Courses in Lansing, Mich. The selections will be announced on Monday evening, May 3, and will be posted on NCAA.com.
Bambola finished with a 71 for the third time in her Red Dragon career. She also posted that score at the Vassar Invitational in April 2019 and at the St. Lawrence Invitational in September 2019.
Junior
Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Williamsville East) tied for third place with an 89. Sophomore
Alivia Waldron (Plattsburgh/Saranac) was sixth with a 95 and freshman
Rachel Curatolo (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) was seventh with a 99. Suffolk was led by Isabel Smith, who finished second with an 82, and Nicole Antonucci, who tied for third with Gaffney with an 89.
Bambola was two-under on the front nine with birdie fours on the third and eighth holes. She parred the first eight holes on the back nine before a bogey five on the final hole. Gaffney finished with four pars and Curatolo parred three holes.
