Giordano D3baseball.com All-American; Nine Red Dragons D3baseball or ABCA All-Region

Cortland senior outfielder Scott Giordano (Croton-on-Hudson/Croton-Harmon) has been chosen as a third-team All-American by the website D3baseball.com for the 2021 season.
 
Giordano was also one of nine Red Dragon players to earn All-New York Region honors from D3baseball.com and/or the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Eight Cortland players were on the D3baseball.com team and nine Red Dragons made the ABCA team, as follows:

Bailey Gauthier (Camillus/West Genesee) – Gr., Relief Pitcher – First Team D3baseball and Second Team ABCA
Ryan Flansburg (Queensbury) – Sr., Pitcher – Second Team D3baseball and Second Team ABCA
Colin BeVard (Syracuse/West Genesee) – Sr., Outfielder – Second Team D3baseball and Third Team ABCA
Matthew Krafft (Cornwall) – So., First Baseman – Third Team D3baseball and Second Team ABCA
Zack Durant (Vernon/V-V-S) – Sr., Pitcher – Third Team D3baseball and Second Team ABCA
James Varian (Hopewell Junction/Trinity-Pawling) – Jr., Catcher – Third Team D3baseball and Third Team ABCA
Daniel Coleman (Saratoga Springs) – Sr., Third Baseman – Third Team ABCA
 
Giordano is batting .414 with six homers, one triple, 15 doubles, 35 RBI and 38 runs scored in 38 starts. He's walked 16 times and is 4-for-4 on steal attempts.
 
Franzese has played in 29 games with 27 starts. He's hitting .337 with two homers, one triple, nine doubles, 22 RBI and 28 runs, along with 13 walks and 5-for-5 on steal attempts.
 
Gauthier has made 14 relief appearances to date and is 5-2 with two saves and a 2.48 ERA. In 29 innings he's allowed 23 hits and 14 walks and has struck out 38 batters.
 
Flansburg is 6-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 10 appearances, nine as a starter. He's given up 42 hits and 18 walks and has struck out 31 batters in 46 and a third innings.
 
BeVard has started 31 games and is hitting at a .374 clip. He's got two homers, two triples, six doubles, 27 RBI, 31 runs and 18 walks, and he's 6-for-6 on steal attempts.
 
Krafft, a starter in 38 games, is batting .403 with a homer, a triple, five doubles and 30 RBI. He's scored 39 runs, walked nine times, and has been successful on 12-of-13 steals.
 
Durant is 6-1 with a 2.76 ERA in 10 starts. He's allowed 34 hits and 14 walks and has fanned 36 batters in 42 and a third innings.
 
Varian has started 38 times and his batting .333 with two homers, 10 doubles, 29 RBI, 31 runs scored and nine walks.
 
Coleman has played in 38 games, with 37 starts, and is batting .318 with six homers, nine doubles, 40 RBI, 27 runs and 21 walks.
 
Cortland (31-7) won both the SUNYAC tournament and the NCAA Auburn, New York Regional titles and will be one of eight teams competing at the NCAA Division III World Series June 4-9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Red Dragons are making their 15th World Series appearance and their 28th straight NCAA tournament showing, a new Division III record.
