Two-Set Lead Slips Away in Season-Opening Loss at Ithaca

Hannah Southcott led Cortland with 17 kills
Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca rallied from being down two sets and trailing 23-20 in the third set to defeat visiting Cortland, 28-30, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-12, in the women's volleyball season opener for both teams.
 
Hannah Southcott (Princeton, WV) led Cortland with 18 kills and added 16 digs. Nicole Van Pelt (Montgomery/Valley Central) finished with 12 kills and Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) totaled 19 assists and 17 digs.
 
Jaelyn Hershberger paced Ithaca with 16 kills and Faith Sabatier added 10 kills. Laura Severance dished out 21 assists and Jordyn Lyn Hayashi totaled 23 digs.
 
Cortland will host the Red Dragon Classic on Friday and Saturday. The tournament's unbalanced schedule includes six schools playing anywhere from one to four predetermined matches. Cortland will face Arcadia Friday at 5 p.m. and St. Lawrence at 7 p.m., followed by a match versus Nazareth Saturday at 2 p.m.
