Red Dragons Place Five in Double Figures in 30-Point Win at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Five Cortland players scored in double figures and the Red Dragons never trailed in an 82-52 SUNYAC men's basketball victory at Plattsburgh. 
 
Humberto Cabrera (Millbrook) led Cortland with 16 points, which tied his career high. He also finished with a career-high six rebounds, matched his career best with three steals, and handed out four assists. He was 6-for-9 from the field, including 4-of-5 from the 3-point line. 
 
Danny Linehan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) made 5-of-11 shots, 3-of-6 from the arc, in a 13-point effort. Kareem Lubin (South Blooming Grove/Washingtonville) scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, tied his career high with 12 rebounds, and added three assists and two blocks. Lubin recorded 10 points and nine rebounds in the first half. 
 
Riley McEvoy (Homer) contributed 11 points, three rebounds and two steals to the winning cause. He made three of his four 3-point attempts and was 4-for-7 from the field overall. Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) amassed 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes of action. AJ Lawton (Saratoga Springs) added eight points and three assists and Sean Melvin (Valhalla) scored a career-high five points. 
 
Erik Salo scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Marlon Todd had eight points and five assists for Plattsburgh (1-10, 0-4 SUNYAC). 
 
Cortland shot 54 percent in the first half and finished at 47 percent for the game. The Red Dragons made 13-of-29 3-pointers (45 percent). Plattsburgh was held to 32 percent shooting overall and 15 percent (4-of-27) from deep. 
 
Cortland led 15-6 less than six minutes into the game and 32-12 with 7:25 left in the opening half. A 12-0 run later in the period pushed a 32-14 lead to 44-14 with 3:04 remaining, and the Red Dragons took a 47-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. Cortland's largest lead was 80-37 with 6:10 remaining. Plattsburgh finished the game on a 15-2 run to create the final margin. 
 
Cortland will play at Potsdam Friday at 4 p.m.
