NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Cortland notched eight individual victories and wins in both relays in a 156-106 men's swimming dual meet victory at New Paltz.
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) and
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) combined for five of Cortland's eight victories. Zupko won three events, posting times of 10:22.82 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 5:00.86 in the 500-yard freestyle, and 1:51.40 in the 200-yard freestyle. Domanico won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.28) and 100-yard butterfly (54.88).
Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) won the 100-yard backstroke (54.91) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.90).
Sam Zani (Rochester/Irondequoit) took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (23.01) and
Josh Chamak (New City/Clarkstown North) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.40).
Ryan Lerner (Washingtonville) finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.57).
Cortland opened the meet by sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Hilldale,
Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack), Domanico and Zani won the race in 1:39.94, followed by Chamak, Lerner,
Nick Dambra (Brockport) and
Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) in 1:42.43. The Red Dragons closed the competition with a win by Poli, Sugrue-Neuendorf, Lerner and Hilldale in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.50).
There was no diving competition at the meet since New Paltz's facility doesn't include diving boards.
Cortland will travel to face Division II Le Moyne College in Syracuse on Saturday.
