CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland wrestling team won a pair of home dual matches, defeating Niagara County Community College, 43-6, and Nassau Community College, 35-12, as part of a tri-match at Corey Gymnasium to improve to 4-1 on the season. Nassau CC defeated Niagara CCC, 24-20, in the opening match of the day.
 
In the win over Niagara CCC, the Red Dragons received pins by Roman Jellick (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) at 197 pounds and Ben Klei (Victor) at 285 pounds and a 15-2 major decision by J.C. Cardenas (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) at 133 pounds.
 
Markel Browne (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) earned a 9-2 decision at 149 pounds, Demitreus Henry (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) won 3-1 at 174 pounds on a takedown with 1:32 left in the first 2-minute sudden-victory overtime period, and Brian Torres (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) won 6-1 at 184 pounds. Cortland also picked up forfeit wins by Justin Amendola (Rocky Point) at 125 pounds, Kyle Klein (Miller Place) at 157 pounds and Steven Gazzillo (New Windsor/Cornwall) at 165 pounds. Niagara CCC's points came via a pin by Frankie Gissendaner at 141 pounds.
 
Cardenas and Ryan Burgbacher (Medford/Patchogue-Medford) recorded pins at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively, versus Nassau CC, while Browne and Henry notched four points apiece with major decisions at 149 and 174 pounds, respectively.
 
Torres, Jellick and Klei registered decisions at the final three weight classes, and Klein picked up a forfeit win at 157. Nassau scored its 12 points on pins by Kevin Lopez at 125 and Joseph Russo at 165.
 
Cortland's next scheduled action is Jan. 28-29 at the Pete Willson Invitational at Wheaton College in Illinois and at the Jamestown Community College Open on Jan. 30.
