JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Five Cortland wrestlers earned top-six finishes at the Jamestown Open. There was no team scoring at the event, which was hosted by Jamestown Community College.
 
Amos Rivera (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) finished second at 133 pounds and Ryan Newman (Brooklyn/Wingate) was the runner-up at 184 pounds. Justin Amendola (Rocky Point) notched a third-place finish at 125 pounds, Michael Rivera (Mahopac) placed fifth at 184 pounds, and Tyler Bisono (Hauppauge) finished sixth at 133 pounds.
 
Amos Rivera won his opening match at 133 by a 9-6 decision, followed by a 6-4 win in the semifinals. He medically forfeited the championship match. Newman finished 2-1 at 184 with a pin and a 6-2 decision before losing in the title bout.
 
Amendola finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. He opened with a major decision and a pin before losing in the semifinals. He bounced back to earn another major decision, and he pinned his opponent in the third-place match.
 
Michael Rivera registered three wins in his five matches at 184. He dropped his opening match but then pinned his next two opponents. After losing, 3-2, in his next outing, he finished the day with a 6-2 win in the fifth-place match. Bisono split his first two matches before losing twice in the consolation bracket, including the fifth-place match, at 133.
 
Also for the Red Dragons, Chris Bold (Miller Place) posted a 2-2 record with a technical fall and major decision at 197 pounds.
