CORTLAND, N.Y. – Eight different players scored goals as the Cortland men's hockey team skated to an 11-2 victory versus Rivier University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 8-4-1 on the season and eclipsed the 10-goal mark for the first time since an 11-3 win at Lebanon Valley on Jan. 27, 2009. The Raiders fell to 4-8-1.

Freshman Jon Tavella (East Longmeadow, MA/Islanders) netted both goals for Rivier. Junior Colby Audette (Colchester, VT/Becker College) and freshman Nicolas Paolucci (Toronto, ON/St. Michael's Buzzers) each contributed an assist. Freshman Luke Newell (Littleton, CO/New England Wolves) started in goal, turning aside 36 shots through two periods. Sophomore Andrew LoRusso (Peabody, MA/Becker College) stopped 10 shots in 14:15, and freshman Joshua Case (Cranston, RI/Cranston H.S.) made seven saves over the final 5:45 in his first collegiate action.
Cortland jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period. The advantage grew to 5-0 just past the midway point of the second period before back-to-back goals by the Raiders made it a 5-2 game with 1:59 remaining in the period. The Red Dragons put the game away with a three-goal burst in 64 seconds to close the period with an 8-2 advantage. Cortland outscored Rivier, 3-0, in the third period for the 11-2 final.
The Red Dragons outshot the Raiders, 64-24, in the game and extended their streak of not allowing a power-play goal to 26 straight chances.
