#17 Red Dragons Blank Geneseo, 2-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – In a game with 11 bookings, the nationally 17th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored a goal in each half and earned a 2-0 win versus Geneseo Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at Holloway Field.

Junior Mateo Marra (Ossining) and freshman Michael Ruggiero (Holtsville/Sachem East) scored the goals for Cortland, which improved to 11-3-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the conference. Sophomore Yasin Choukri (Wilton, CT) collected an assist.

Freshman goalie Luke van Galen (Georgetown, MA) made three saves for the Red Dragons. Sophomore goalie Vincent Maronski Jr. (Miller Place) registered four saves for the Knights (7-5-3, 1-3-3).

The Knights created the first scoring chance in the game in the eighth minute, but van Galen made a sprawling save on a one-time shot from six yards out by senior Tyler Lewandowski (Greece/Greece Arcadia). Marra netted the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 34th minute after he was dragged down in the box.

The Red Dragons dominated a second half that included 10 of the cards, including a red card issued to a Geneseo player in the 81st minute. Cortland eventually sealed the win when Ruggiero finished off a 3-on-1 in the 88th minute for the 2-0 final.
