WILTON, N.Y. – Cortland earned its second tournament title in as many days with a first-place finish out of 10 teams at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Fall Invitational on Sunday.
The tournament was the second of two during the weekend hosted by the conference at the McGregor Links Country Club. Cortland won the NWGC Fall Classic on Saturday. Neither of the two tournaments are the official conference championship, which is scheduled for next April 22-23 in Bloomfield, Conn.
Cortland finished with a team score of 348, easily ahead of Nazareth's 382 and Suffolk's 388. The tournament was Cortland's final competition of the fall season.
Cortland's five scoring golfers all placed in the top eight of the 50-golfer field, led by
Claudia Winterberg's (Harrisburg, NC/Hickory Ridge) second-place score of 84 on the par-72 course. Husson's Lindsay Cote was the medalist with an 83.
Sarah Wiggins (Carson City, NV/Carson) finished in fifth place with an 87, followed by
Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Williamsville East) in sixth with an 88.
Kristina Visniesky (Buffalo/Orchard Park) placed seventh with an 89 and
Sophie Oristian (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) was eighth with a 93.
