Red Dragons Stay Unbeaten in SUNYAC with 4-1 Win vs. Buffalo St.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Graduate student Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Cortland women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory versus Buffalo St. in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Holloway Field. The Red Dragons improved to 8-1-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference. The Bengals dropped to 6-4-2 and 1-3-1.

Juniors Liz Allen (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and Kayla Valerioti (Oakdale/Connetquot) each added a goal for Cortland, while sophomore Katie Cosenza (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) contributed an assist. Sophomore goalie Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) turned aside two shots.

Sophomore Elsa Graf (Pulaski/Sandy Creek) scored Buffalo St.'s goal with junior Gia Dilimone (Grand Island/Sacred Heart) picking up an assist. Junior Bella Vene (Deer Park) started in goal for the Bengals, making 10 saves in 80:42 before giving way to sophomore Samantha Kaufman (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East), who stopped one shot over the final 9:18.

Cortland outshot the Bengals, 13-4, in the first half and created three excellent scoring chances. In the eighth minute, Vene made a save on an uncontested shot by Cosenza from the right side of the box. Allen put the Red Dragons on the scoreboard in the 19th minute with her one-time finish from the middle of the box off a cross by Cosenza. Graduate student Jayden Kelley (East Berne/Voorheesville) had a great chance to tack on another goal in the 38th minute, but Vene charged off her line to deny Kelley's breakaway bid.

Buffalo St. nearly tied the game in the 59th minute, but Spendal punched sophomore Macey Gioeli's (North Tonawanda) long shot over the crossbar to keep the Bengals scoreless. The Red Dragons then took control of the game with three goals in less than a 10-minute span. Galluzzo made it a 2-0 game in the 61st minute when she capitalized on a Bengal misplay in the box and netted her ninth goal of the season. Valerioti followed with a shot from the top of the box that deflected off Vene's hands and the crossbar before crossing the goal line in the 64th minute, and Galluzzo took advantage of another loose ball in the box in the 70th minute with a shot inside the right post for her team-high 10th goal of the season and a 4-0 Cortland lead.

Graf broke up the shutout bid in the 85th minute. After Dilimone broke in alone on the right side and hit the crossbar with her shot, Graf cleaned up the rebound with a clean header into the open goal for the 4-1 final.
