BUFFALO, N.Y. – The nationally 13th-ranked Cortland women's ice hockey team opened up NEWHL play with a 4-0 victory at Buffalo St. Friday night, improving to 3-0 on the season with the win.
Sophomore
Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) led Cortland with a goal and two assists, while freshmen
Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) and
Morgan Raymond (Kirkville/Syracuse Valley Eagles) each netted her first career goal and junior
Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) added a goal. Juniors
Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON/Ottawa Thunder) and
Nicole Tulowiecki (Syracuse/Syracuse Nationals) and sophomores
Gillian Zwolak (Stoney Creek, ON/Ancaster Avalanche) and
Beth McArthur (Peterborough, ON/Lawrence University) collected one assist apiece.
Sophomore goalie
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) turned aside 17 shots in posting her second shutout of the season in two starts for the Red Dragons. Goalie Jessica Auge made 46 saves for the Bengals (2-3, 0-3).
Mia Hlasnick started the scoring with an unassisted breakaway goal at the 5:27 mark of the first period. Delacourt made it a 2-0 score just 21 seconds before the end of the period with a wrist shot from the point on a delayed penalty with Cortland with an extra skater.
Raymond's goal after a Cortland faceoff win at 11:31 of the second period made it a 3-0 game.
Jillian Hlasnick completed the scoring with a rebound goal at 8:38 of the third period for the 4-0 final.
