Cortland Defeats Hartwick, 79-43, in Home Opener

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) recorded a double-double with team highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds as Cortland defeated visiting Hartwick, 79-43, in non-league women's basketball action.
 
Travers made 7-of-11 shots from the field, including two 3-pointers, and added two assists, two blocks and two steals for the Red Dragons (1-1). Maggie Malone (Cornwall) finished with 12 points and Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) ended with 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
 
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) totaled eight points, three blocks, two assists and a career-high 10 rebounds. Lily Woodis (Mayville/Chautauqua Lake) scored nine points in 10 minutes off the bench and Corinne Miedreich (Pearl River) added eight points, five rebounds and a career-high five assists.
 
Hartwick (0-4) was led by Morgan Perry's 14 points and 11 rebounds. Angelina Maselli scored 10 points and Erin Novak had 12 rebounds.
 
Cortland led 16-9 after the first quarter and outscored the Hawks, 21-10, in the second to take a 37-19 halftime lead. The Red Dragons' advantage ranged from 20-37 points for most of the second half.
 
Cortland shot 43 percent from the field and 8-for-23 (35 percent) from 3-point range. The Red Dragons held Hartwick to 20 percent shooting from the field. Cortland blocked 12 shots, its highest total since registering 13 blocks in a win over Keuka in January of 2007.
 
Cortland travels to Hamilton College Saturday for a 2 p.m. non-league game.
