CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Geneseo women's soccer team earned an automatic NCAA Div. III playoff berth by virtue of winning a penalty-kick shootout, 4-3, after the Knights and Cortland played to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes.

Graduate student Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) scored her team-high 15th goal for the Red Dragons (13-1-4). Sophomore goalie Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) did not make a save as she only saw one shot on goal.

Lindsay Wright scored Geneseo's goal with Hannah Sullivan assisting. Goalie Angel Bennett turned aside seven shots.

Wright, the MVP of the tournament, scored off a header in the 14th minute to give Geneseo the lead. Galluzzo tied the game in the 29th minute on a rebound goal.

The Red Dragons controlled the second half of play, outshooting the Knights, 14-0, but could not net the go-ahead goal. After two mandatory 10-minute overtimes in which each team only took one shot, Geneseo earned the conference title with its 4-3 win in the penalty kick shootout.

Cortland awaits a possible at-large NCAA playoff berth when the selections are announced on Monday.

Joining Wright on the All-Tournament team were Liv Raucci, Angel Bennett and Julia Dell Aquila of Geneseo; Galluzzo, freshman Rachael Ehrlich (South Setauket/Ward Melville) and junior Simone Neivel (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) of Cortland; Brooke Kelleher and Rachel Eisert of New Paltz and Graisa Madden and Perri Anderson of Oswego.
