Cortland Dominates Final 15 Minutes for 70-39 Win at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Cortland outscored Plattsburgh 36-2 over the final 15 minutes to erase a small deficit and the Red Dragons defeated the host Cardinals, 70-39, in SUNYAC women's basketball action. 
 
Cortland improved to 7-1 overall and remained unbeaten in league play with a 4-0 mark. Plattsburgh dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the league. 
 
Fiona Mullen (Orangeburg/Tappan Zee) scored a Cortland career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and grabbed four rebounds. She made 2-of-4 3-pointers. Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) hit all three of her 3-point attempt and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) added 11 points and six rebounds and Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) totaled 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. 
 
Sarah Tully (East Aurora) led Cortland with 12 rebounds, blocked two shots and matched her career best with four assists. Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) registered eight points, nine rebounds and a career-high six assists. 
 
Izzy Wilbur scored 13 points and recorded five steals ad Payton Couture had 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists for the Cardinals. 
 
Cortland led 19-14 after one quarter and 27-15 midway through the second quarter. Plattsburgh closed its deficit to 10 at 34-24 by halftime, and the Cardinals scored the first 13 points of the third, capped by Wilbur's 3-pointer, to take a 37-34 lead. 
 
From that point, however, it was all Red Dragons. Mullen scored seven points and Streety four during a 16-0 run to close out the third quarter to give Cortland a 50-37 lead. Cortland limited the Cardinals to just one basket at the 7-minute mark in the fourth quarter. For the game, Cortland held Plattsburgh to just 19 percent shooting from the field.  
 
Cortland plays at Potsdam Sunday at noon.
