Cortland Takes Control in Second Half at Oneonta for 17th Straight Win

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's basketball team mounted a 16-1 run spanning the second and third quarters and the Red Dragons posted their 17th consecutive win with a 58-39 triumph at Oneonta.
 
Cortland (18-2, 14-0 SUNYAC) remains on top of the SUNYAC standings and can clinch the conference regular-season title with a victory in any of its last four contests. The Red Dragons will play at second-place New Paltz (11-4 SUNYAC) Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Shannon McGuire (West Babylon) made 4-of-8 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and three assists in the win. Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) hit all four of her field goals and tallied a career-best eight points in just 12 minutes off the bench, and Maggie Malone (Cornwall) scored eight points and pulled in five rebounds. Sarah Tully (East Aurora) led the team with eight rebounds.
 
Oneonta (11-11, 8-7 SUNYAC) was led by Meg Nardelli, who hit three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points. Sophia Wakin scored seven points, Molly Stephens handed out three assists ,and Olivia Dobrovosky gathered in six rebounds.
 
Cortland led 12-11 after one quarter and 16-15 with 3:50 left in the first half before scoring the final six points of the period, four by Streety. Cortland then opened the third quarter on a 10-1 run, capped by a McGuire 3-pointer, to take a 32-16 lead with 6:28 left in the stanza. Cortland led 48-26 after three quarters and by at least 20 points in the fourth quarter until a free throw with 12 seconds left created the final margin.
 
Cortland shot just 27 percent in the first half, but bounced back to make 44 percent of its shots in the second half. Oneonta was held to 25 shooting from the floor for the contest.
