Red Dragons Win Team Title at Muhlenberg Mideast Futures

Sophomore Michael Barker finished with a 4-1 record
ALLENTOWN, PA. – The Cortland wrestling team posted seven top-four finishes, including three runner-up showings, to grab the team title at the Muhlenberg Mideast Futures Tournament in Allentown, Pa. on Sunday.

Juniors Vinnie Santilli (South Glens Falls) and Chris Angelone (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and sophomore Kyle Klein (Miller Place) each registered a 3-1 record in placing second at the tournament.

Santilli opened with a pair of pins to advance to the semifinals at 141 pounds, earning falls over Joseph Lundin of Wilkes in 3:52 and Rene Trevino of Wilkes in 6:00. He moved onto the championship bout with a 7-5 decision against Gettysburg's Julian Amadio before dropping a 6-2 decision versus Josh Post of RIT in the final.

Angelone took the runner-up spot at 174 pounds. He advanced on a forfeit and pinned Matt Watson of Elizabethtown in 2:17 in the quarterfinals. Angelone moved on to the final with a 10-4 decision over Alvernia's Anthony Bauer, but lost by fall in the championship bout to Joel Martsinovsky of Stevens.

Klein's run to the championship match at 149 pounds started with a pin of Alan Kokilananda of Wilkes just nine seconds before the end of regulation. He followed up with a pin of York's Alex Sladek in 2:32 and a 12-1 major decision over Cooper Johnson of Washington & Lee in the semifinals. Klein dropped a close 5-2 decision to Pasquale Vizzoni of Stevens in the final.

The Red Dragons had two top-four placers at 125 pounds. Senior Richard Munoz (Centereach/Ward Melville) finished third with a 6-1 record, including six straight wins topped off with an 18-2 technical fall in the third-place match over junior teammate Justin Amendola who posted a 4-2 mark for his fourth-place showing.

Sophomore Michael Barker (Holbrook/Sachem North) earned a third-place finish at 149 pounds, posting a 4-1 record, which included a pin and a major decision. Freshman Pat Ross (Woodstock/Onteora) recorded two pins and a 3-2 record to take fourth place at 174 pounds.
