The Cortland women's basketball team, by virtue of winning the regular-season title in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), will be the host of the conference postseason tournament semifinals and finals on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at Corey Gymnasium.
Cortland (20-4) is the top seed and will face fifth-seeded Oneonta (14-12) Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the second of two semifinal games. The 5:30 p.m. game Friday features second-seeded New Paltz (18-6) and third-seeded Geneseo (17-9). The two winners will play for the league title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament Saturday at 4 p.m.
Oneonta won at fourth-seeded Buffalo State and Geneseo defeating visiting sixth-seeded Fredonia in Tuesday's first round.
Tickets for each day are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Children 4 and under, and students from all SUNYAC schools (with ID), will be admitted free.
Cortland defeated Oneonta twice during the regular season, winning 77-65 at home on Jan. 29 and 58-39 on the road Feb. 11. Cortland is also 2-0 versus Geneseo this season, and the Red Dragons split two games with New Paltz, with the home team winning each contest.
Cortland is hosting the SUNYAC "final four" for the first time since 2010. The Red Dragons have won seven SUNYAC titles, most recently in 2010. The last time the league tournament was held in 2020, Cortland lost in the finals to host New Paltz but still earned an NCAA tournament at-large berth.
