Williams Posts NCAA Qualifying Finish During Second Day of NCAA Diving Regional

Taylor Williams finished fourth on the 3-meter board Saturday and appears to be a qualifier for the national championships
ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland diver Taylor Williams (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) has tentatively earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships after finishing in fourth place on the 3-meter board during Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Region 4 (Northeast/South) Women's Diving Regional, hosted by Ithaca College.

(UPDATE: Williams was officially announced as a qualifier on Monday, March 1.)

Williams posted a score of 456.45 points and should receive one of the region's seven NCAA berths. The national championships will be held March 16-19 in Indianapolis. Williams previously qualified for nationals in 2020, but that championship was canceled due to COVID-19.

Qualifiers from the regional are chosen in alternating fashion, starting with the top finisher on Day 1, then the top finisher on Day 2, then the second finisher from Day 1, and so on. Those who were already been chosen were skipped for the next finisher on that board. The NCAA will officially announce the national qualifiers on Monday.

In addition to Williams on Saturday, Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished ninth on the 3-meter board with 411.75 points and Nicole Bellettiere (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) was 19th with 344.95 point. Ithaca's Eliana Wallock won the event with 465.30 points.

On the men's side, Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished 12th out of 16 on the 1-meter board with 396.85 points.

Williams was in second place after nine dives with 368.15 points before giving up ground to two divers over the final two dives.
