Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) combined for 16 points to lead the nationally 21st-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 20-9 win Friday afternoon in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex, giving first-year head coach
Kelsey Van Alstyne her first victory on the Red Dragon sideline.
Hopsicker and Cashman each tallied a career-high eight points on a career-best six goals and two assists for Cortland (1-2). Graduate student

Junior Brooke Fiannaca (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) paced Rochester's (1-1) offense with three goals. Sophomore Grace Crochiere (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) tallied two goals and an assist and junior Emma Little (Rochester/Brighton) also netted two goals. Freshman Gracie Giannettino (Auburn) scored a team-high four points on one goal and three assists, and freshman Mia Perkell (North Woodmere/Hewlett) chipped in with a goal.
Sophomore Ava Saffren (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) started in goal for Rochester, making seven saves and scooping up three ground balls through three quarters. Junior Sami Dinhofer (Chappaqua/Horace Greeley) turned aside one shot in the fourth quarter. Junior Lucy Haggerty (Victor) finished with one assist, two ground balls and four draws. Little won four draws, and Crochiere and senior Kate Lindsey (Mont Vernon, NH/Souhegan) collected three ground balls apiece.
Cortland jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first quarter as Cashman scored three times. The Yellowjackets opened the second quarter with four of the first five goals to pull to within 8-6 with 2:25 left on the clock. The Red Dragons responded with goals from Goebel at 1:20 and Hopsicker with 11.7 seconds remaining in the quarter to grab a 10-6 lead at the half.
Cortland took control of the game with a four-goal burst to start the third quarter for a 14-6 lead as Hopsicker scored three times. Rochester wrapped goals around a pair of Cortland scores to make it a 16-8 score heading into the final 15 minutes of play. The Red Dragons sewed up the win with four goals from four different players to open the fourth quarter before Little completed the scoring with a late free-position goal for the 20-9 final.
