WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Cortland junior Ryan Cory (Beacon) finished in 14th place out of 20 runners in the 3,000-meter run during the second and final day of competition at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event was held at the JDL Fast Track complex.

Cory, seeded 19th entering nationals, recorded a time of 8:28.07 in the championship race. Alex Phillip of John Carroll won the national title in 8:16.62.

Cory was one of five Red Dragons to compete at nationals. Dane Sorensen (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and Zach Nyhart (Hamburg) were ninth and 17th, respectively, in the pole vault, and Brett Morse (Saratoga Springs) and Aaron Jones (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) were 12th and 17th, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries during Friday's opening day. The top eight spots in each events score points and earn All-America honors.

Coach's Corner - Comments from Cortland Head Coach Steve Patrick:

Ryan put a strong effort out there today in what was a really competitive field. His place was well in front of his seed, which is always a nice accomplishment!

He fought hard to stay connected and engaged, and narrowly avoided having a bad fall at around the mile mark.

We're excited for the opportunities outdoor will bring us as a program at the end of the month!
