Superb Season Ends in SUNYAC Semifinals with 4-0 Setback at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The second-seeded Oswego men's hockey team scored a pair of goals in the first and third periods in defeating fourth-seeded Cortland, 4-0, in the SUNYAC Semifinals Wednesday night. The Red Dragons had a six-game unbeaten streak snapped and finished the season at 15-10-2 with the 15 wins second most in program history. The Lakers improved to 18-6-1 and travel to top-seeded Geneseo on Saturday in the championship game.

Junior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) registered 37 saves for Cortland. Durante finished the season with a 13-6-2 record and set individual single-season records for most shutouts (3), lowest goals-against average (2.09) and highest save percentage (.941). Senior Michael Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) earned the team's Mark Tyo Award, leading the Red Dragons in scoring with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists. Sophomore defenseman John Kuhl (Essex Fells, NJ/Boston Jr. Rangers) led Cortland with a plus/minus rating of +15.

Shane Bull and Tommy Cahill each tallied a goal and an assist for Oswego. Alex DiCarlo and Tyler Flack netted goals, Ryan Dickinson collected two assists and Connor Sleeth added one assist. Goalie Steven Kozikoski made 29 saves.

The Lakers took a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes with goals from DiCarlo just 23 seconds into the game and Bull at the 9:24 mark. After a scoreless second period, Cahill made it a 3-0 game at 1:43 of the third period, and Flack clinched the win with an empty-net goal at 18:08 after Cortland pulled Durante for an extra skater.

As a program, the Red Dragons set season records with a 2.30 GAA, a .933 save percentage, an .869 penalty-kill percentage and nine wins in the SUNYAC.
