BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Cortland women's tennis team lost to top-seeded New Paltz, 5-0, in the semifinal round of the 2022 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament.
New Paltz (13-3) advances to the championship Saturday versus second-seeded Oneonta, which defeated Geneseo, 5-0, in Friday's second semifinal. Cortland closes the combined fall/spring season with a 5-6 record.
New Paltz led 3-0 after doubles play, and the match was stopped after the Hawks secured their victory with wins at fifth and sixth singles. Cortland's
Abby Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) won her first set at second singles, 6-1, and was down 1-0 in the second set when the team competition ended, officially leaving her match as one of four unfinished singles matches.
