HOUSTON, TEXAS – The Cortland women's golf team is currently in 26th place after the first day of competition at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The championship is being held at the Bay Oaks Country Club.
Cortland finished with a Day 1 score of 349. Emory University is the team leader at 292, followed by Washington-St. Louis at 297. Cortland is 12 strokes out of 20th place and 30 strokes away from 15th place entering Wednesday's second round. Cortland will tee off Wednesday starting at 9 a.m. (Central). The event continues Thursday, after which point the top 15 teams make the cut for Friday's final round.
Claudia Winterberg (Harrisburg, NC/Hickory Ridge) was Cortland's top performer on Tuesday with an 83. She's tied for 89th place out of 151 golfers. She posted a 42 on the back nine (Cortland started on the 10th hole) and had a 41 on the front.
Paige Cerminaro (Howell, NJ) is tied for 99th place with an 84. She opened with a 45 on the back and carded a three-over par 39 on the front.
Rounding out Cortland's contingent were
Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Williamsville East) with a 90 (42 back, 48 front),
Sophie Oristian (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) with a 92 (46 each side) and
Alivia Waldron (Saranac) with a 97 (43 back, 54 front). Four golfers in the field broke par on the first day, led by Washington-St. Louis' Annie Mascot with a three-under 69.
