Cortland Improves During Second Day of NCAA Division III Championships

HOUSTON, TEXAS – The Cortland women's golf team improved on its opening day performance by 13 strokes and one team place during Day 2 of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The championship is being held at the Bay Oaks Country Club.
 
Cortland finished the day with a team score of 336 for a two-day total of 685. The Red Dragons improved from 26th to 25th place in the team standings, two strokes ahead of both Westminster (Pa.) and Drew. Emory is the team leader at 588 (292-296), followed by Pomona-Pitzer at 602 (303-299).
 
Cortland begins action at Day 3 of the championship Thursday at 7:20 a.m. (Central). Following Thursday's action the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and the top six individuals not on those teams for Friday's final round.
 
Claudia Winterberg (Harrisburg, NC/Hickory Ridge) registered Cortland's best round on Wednesday with a 79 and is currently tied for 82nd place out of 151 golfers after two days with a 162. She opened Wednesday with an even-par 36 on the front nine, with two birdies and two bogeys, and carded a 43 on the back nine.
 
Alivia Waldron (Saranac) posted an 84 on Wednesday. She had a 45 on the front before covering the back nine with a three-over par 39, including one birdie. She has a two-day score of 181.
 
Paige Cerminaro (Howell, NJ) is at 170 after two days after her 86 on Wednesday. She registered a 43 on each side. Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Williamsville East) finished with an 87 Wednesday – she had a 42 with one birdie on the front and a 45 on the back – and is at 177 through two days. Sophie Oristian (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) carded a 92 Wednesday (47-45) and is at 184 entering Thursday's action.
 
Aliea Clark (NYU) is the current tournament leader with a two-under par 142 (71 each day). Ellen Dong of Emory is second at 143 and Annie Mascot of Washington-St. Louis, who opened with a 69 Tuesday, is now third at 145.
