Cortland freshman second baseman
Halle Wright (Ballston Spa) has been named the 2022 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball Co-Rookie of the Year, and she is one of four Red Dragons who have earned all-league honors. Wright was a first-team selection along with senior third baseman
Alyssa Finno (Hurley/Kingston) and sophomore designated player
Lizzy Byers (New Paltz). Freshman first baseman
McKenna Barry (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was named to the all-league second team.

Wright shared the rookie honor with Oneonta's Julia Serena. Wright started 39 games this spring and batted .419 with six doubles, three triples, a homer, 28 RBI, 30 runs, seven steals and a .951 fielding percentage. She registered 16 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 effort in a win over Ursinus, 3-for-3 outings in wins over St. John Fisher and MCLA, and three hits in four other contests.

Finno started 39 games and batted .407 with 10 doubles, a triple, two homers, 28 RBI and 31 runs. She struck out only six times in 130 plate appearances. Finno had 17 multi-hit games, highlighted by a 4-for-4 performance in a win at Fredonia. She was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team after batting .500 (8-for-16) in five postseason games.

Byers, who saw action as both a designated player and an outfielder during the season, batted .322 with 13 home runs, eight doubles, 44 RBI and 27 runs scored in 39 games, 38 as a starter. She hit .370 in 17 SUNYAC regular-season games with 10 homers and 31 RBI. Byers hit two homers in a game twice, and three of her 13 round-trippers were grand slams. Byers' 13 homers are the third-highest total in a season by a Cortland player behind only Meaghan Kohler (17 in 2012) and Hannah Feldman (14 in 2018).

Barry started all 41 games this spring and hit .347 with 16 doubles, five homers, 37 RBI, 24 runs and 14 walks. She boasted a .996 fielding percentage with just one error in 242 total chances. Barry hit .417 in 18 SUNYAC regular-season games with three homers and 21 RBI. Her 13 multi-hit games during the season included 3-for-4 performances in wins over Fredonia, Plattsburgh and Oswego.

Cortland finished the season with a 26-15 record. The Red Dragons placed second during the SUNYAC regular season with a 14-4 mark and finished second in the SUNYAC postseason tournament. Cortland has finished first or second in every SUNYAC tournament since 1998.
