CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland opened its 2022-23 women's tennis season with a 9-0 dual-match win over visiting Brockport in a SUNYAC contest. The Red Dragons will host Fredonia Sunday at 11 a.m., also in league play.
Cortland won its three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-9.
Abby Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and
Vyda Van Denburg (Kingston) posted an 8-4 win at first doubles,
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) and
Karlie Cubino (Marcy/Whitesboro) won 8-3 at second doubles, and
Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) and
Isabella Bonapace (Leonia, NJ) won 8-2 on the third flight.
Morano swept her opponent at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Cubino's 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles gave Cortland the match-clinching point. Streety claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory at second singles,
Emma Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles, Van Denburg was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at third singles, and (Abby) Madigan wrapped up the team sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 win at first singles.
