ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team opened its weekend trip to Rochester with a four-set win over host RIT, 25-19, 25-11, 18-25, 25-13. The Red Dragons (7-1) will play two matches Saturday at St. John Fisher against Mount Union and the host Cardinals.
Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) led Cortland with nine kills and
Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) totaled eight kills nine digs and three blocks.
Caterina Mangogna (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) put down seven kills with just one error in 15 attempts for a .400 attack percentage.
Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) handed out 19 assists and
Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) added 12 assists, five digs and a team-high four aces.
Carly Haegele (Commack) led the squad with 10 digs,
Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park) had a team-best six blocks, and
Maddy McCormack (Remsen) finished with seven digs.
RIT (2-5) was led by Liv Bernard's nine kills. Sydney Neff recorded 27 assists and eight digs and Calista Gasper had eight blocks.
Cortland finished the night with a .180 team attack percentage that included a .318 mark in the second set and a .250 percentage in the fourth set. RIT was held to a .009 attack percentage with 30 kills and 29 errors in 112 attempts.
