SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. – The Cortland women's golf team finished in third place out six schools at the NYU Fall Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the Shackamaxon Country Club.

NYU won the team title with a 589 (296-293), followed by Ithaca at 643 (322-321) and Cortland at 655 (327-328). Drew finished fourth with a 684 (349-335), Union was fifth at 695 (353-342) and Arcadia placed sixth at 729 (365-364).

All five of Cortland's golfers broke their season best scores in at least one round during the weekend. Claudia Winterberg (Harrisburg, NC/Hickory Ridge) was the Red Dragons' top performer with a two-day score of 157 to tie for 13th place out of 34 golfers. She had an 81 on Saturday on the par-71 course with nine pars and a birdie, followed by a 76 on Sunday with nine pars and three birdies. Drew's Kayla Diaz was the tournament medalist with a 141 (74-67). 

Alivia Waldron (Plattsburgh/Saranac) finished in 17th place with a 165 (82-83). She parred 18 holes over the two-day event. Sophie Oristian (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) tied for 18th place with a 166 (82-84) that included 10 pars Saturday and six pars and a birdie Sunday. 

Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Williamsville East) tied for 20th place at 167 (82-85). She birdied four holes over the weekend – two each day – and carded a combined 15 pars. Kristina Visniesky (Buffalo/Orchard Park) placed 22nd with a 170 (83-87). She birdied a hole each day and had a combined 12 pars.

Cortland will travel to Massachusetts next Saturday and Sunday for the Williams College Championship.
