CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland limited Oswego to 18 points over the final three quarters as the Red Dragons defeated the visiting Lakers, 75-30, in a SUNYAC women's basketball contest. The 30 points are the fewest Cortland has allowed to a SUNYAC opponent since a 53-25 win at Buffalo State in February 2009.
Cortland improved to 13-2 overall and remained atop the SUNYAC standings with a 9-0 mark. Oswego dropped to 11-4 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) led Cortland with a season-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. She made two 3-pointers and added six rebounds and four steals.
Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) also made two treys and finished with 15 points, and
Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) shot 5-for-8 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from the 3-point arc, and ended with 13 points, a team-high eight rebounds, five assists and a career-high five steals.
Sarah Tully (East Aurora) totaled seven rebounds and three blocked shots along with five points and two assists.
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) contributed a career-high four assists and a career-high tying three steals in 14 minutes off the bench,
Stef Gera (Auburn) dished out a career-best three assists, and
Fiona Mullen (Orangeburg/Tappan Zee) scored six points after making both of her 3-pointers.
Shania Iglesias led Oswego with seven points and six rebounds.
Cortland held a 14-12 lead before scoring the final five points of the first quarter on a Morano 3-point play and a
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) jumper to go up 17-12 after one quarter. Each team scored only two points in the first five minutes of the second quarter, but the Red Dragons closed the period on an 11-0 run to lead 32-14 at halftime. Cortland outscored the Lakers in the third quarter, 18-6, to extend the lead to 30 points.
Cortland shot 42 percent from the field and 10-for-23 (44 percent) from 3-point range. Oswego was held to 23 percent shooting overall and 19 percent (3-of-16) from the arc. Cortland held a 32-5 advantage in points off of turnovers as the Lakers turned the ball over 26 times.
Cortland hosts nationally 25th-ranked Bowdoin in a non-league game Monday at 2 p.m.
