Emily Morano Selected as SUNYAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week

Cortland senior guard Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22. She earned the award for the third time this season.

Morano averaged 19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Red Dragons. She shot 51 percent from the field overall and 44 percent (8-for-18) from 3-point range. 
 
Morano opened the week on Monday, Jan. 16, with 29 points, including 7-of-12 shooting from the arc, 11 rebounds and four assists in a 70-66 win over then nationally 25th-ranked Bowdoin. She scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds in a four-point loss at New Paltz Friday, and on Saturday she scored nine of her 15 points in the final four minutes as Cortland rallied for a 52-45 win at Oneonta. 
 
Through 18 games, Morano is averaging 14.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. She's shooting 46 percent from the floor overall, 40 percent (37-of-92) from 3-point range, and 83 percent from the foul line. 
 
Cortland (15-3, 10-1 SUNYAC) is currently second in the league standings. The Red Dragons host Potsdam Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m. in conference play.
