Austin Grunder Chosen as SUNYAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

For the third time this season SUNY Cortland senior forward/guard Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. His latest recognition is for the week ending Jan. 1.
 
Grunder was named to the all-tournament team at the Juniata Doc Greene Classic on Dec. 29-30 after averaging 22 points and nine rebounds per game in two contests. He scored 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting and grabbed nine boards in a 78-66 win over Pitt Greensburg in the opening round and added 17 points and nine rebounds in a 55-51 loss to Juniata in the championship game.
 
Through 12 games this season (including Jan. 3 versus Scranton, which was not included in the weekly award) Grunder is averaging 21.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. He's shooting 48 percent from the field overall, 42 percent from 3-point range (19-for-45), and 79 percent from the foul line (44-for-56). He's currently second at Cortland in career rebounds (789) and tied for sixth in career scoring (1,365).
 
Cortland (10-2, 5-0 SUNYAC) will host Fredonia Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Buffalo State Saturday at 4 p.m. in SUNYAC contests.
