Cortland Earns Sweep of Visiting Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in SUNYAC play with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 win over visiting Oneonta. 
 
Cortland (15-3, 4-0 SUNYAC) will host New Paltz (15-5, 5-0 SUNYAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. 
 
Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) and Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) led Cortland with nine kills apiece. Pilkey also added 10 digs and Sturgess had seven digs and three blocks. Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) totaled seven kills and four blocks and Giovanna Rossi (Nichols/Tioga) had five kills and two blocks. 
 
Ashley Siergiej (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) and Lexy Bloss (York, PA/Dallastown Area) finished with four kills each. Blosss added three blocks and Siergiej had two blocks. Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) and Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) recorded 18 and 13 assists, apiece, while Hinshaw led the team with three aces. Hinshaw surpassed the career 1,000-assist mark with her effort - a mark Wittman also reached earlier this season. Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) ended the night with 12 digs and two aces. 
 
Katie Spano led Oneonta (3-14, 0-5 SUNYAC) with six kills. Layla Driscoll-Webster totaled 20 assists and Anna Moller had 10 digs. 
 
Cortland led 8-1 to start the first set. Oneonta got back to within 9-6 before Cortland fashioned a 5-1 run to take control. The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes. Oneonta led 14-12 and the set was tied at 18-18 before Cortland ended the set on a 7-0 run. The stretch included kills from Pilkey and Siergiej, a McCormack ace and a Sturgess kill. In the third set, Cortland held a 12-10 lead before closing the night on a 13-6 streak.
